Linton Heights was built in 1974 as a County Junior School in the village of Linton, which is 10 miles south of the city of Cambridge and 7 miles from Saffron Walden. Over the last 25 years the village has grown significantly with the addition of several new private estates around the school. As of January 2024, the school has a roll of 250. The catchment area includes the villages of Linton and Bartlow.

Linton Heights is a co-educational school for children in years 3 to 6. The eight classes in the school are built round a large central hall, used for assemblies, lunches and PE. The eight classes are arranged into a Lower School comprising two Year 3 and two Year 4 and an Upper School of two Year 5 and two Year 6 classes.

All classrooms have laptops and interactive whiteboards. We operate a mobile computing suite comprising of both laptop computers and iPads that are operated via wireless links.

As well as a library, the school also has a playground, a large playing field and a learners’ swimming pool.  In 2016 we  developed an area of our grounds into a Forest Schools area which is now used both in lessons and at playtime.

A strong feature of the school is the music provision. Lots of our pupils have small group or individual tuition from peripatetic music teachers and there are many opportunities for performances in the Friday afternoon Ceilidh, concerts, school performances, assemblies and other events.

Extra-curricular provision is exceptional with a variety of after school activities, including: gymnastics, crochet, Spanish, cross-country, Harry Potter, choir, computer gaming, dodgeball, football and netball – amongst others.

Sporting opportunities are very good and the school has a high level of success in competitive events held with local, Trust and South Cambridgeshire primary schools. Children are also offered opportunities to attend two, highly enjoyable and active residential visits in both Year 5 and 6 and a safer cycling course in the Upper School. All our children receive swimming lessons during the summer term each year.

Most of our pupils come directly from Linton Church of England Infant School into Year 3 and our Year 6 pupils move on to Linton Village College.

At Linton Heights the curriculum is full of enjoyment and challenge for our children and is relevant to today’s world and that of the future. Our curriculum ensures a well-rounded educational balance that helps develop inquisitive, responsible children who become lifelong learners. I am proud to be the headteacher of this school which is continually evolving, providing a rich, inclusive and creative learning experience for all.

Linton Heights Junior School became an academy in November 2016 and joined Anglian Learning Trust in April 2020. For more information about Anglian Learning, please visit: www.anglianlearning.org
